You can place the plastic foam block into the spear (before putting on the faucet) It just slides into the spear shaft. Screw on the faucet from there.
Tip* Whenever you increase the pressure on the keg, you shoot a quick influx of co2 into the keg, so it's really easy to get foam on your first pour. Don't be afraid to put the regulator in the off position, and then pull the pressure release valve ring, to alleviate excess pressure.
Tip #2* I tend to start with just a little bit of pressure, then open the faucet to start pouring the beer, and slightly increase the pressure until the flow is at a comfortable flowing pace. This method will keep the foam at bay.
